Bespoke Millinery Frequently Asked Questions

The Hat room offers a couture millinery service, where we will design and make you a bespoke hat or headpiece to match your outfit and suit your occasion.

We are able to dye feathers, sinamay, straw and silk to ensure that your hat is the perfect colour to compliment your outfit.

A commission costs between £100 for a simple piece up to £450 for a fully blocked hat with handmade flowers and complex trim.

Generally we follow a simple process which takes 4-6 weeks depending on design, material accessibility and time of year. We always ask that you give us at least 6 weeks from your first appointment to the date of your event to ensure we are able to complete your bespoke piece within the timeframe.

How it works…

Firstly, call us on 07947 439590 to make a no obligation appointment to discuss your requirements; ideally we ask that you bring your outfit and any accessories with you so we can discuss ideas to suit your look. We have a changing room which you can use to change into your outfit – to allow you to envisage the finished look.

At the consultation you will be able to try on different hats and headpiece shapes and together we can choose a style which suits your face shape, silhouette, outfit and occasion. We will also discuss the type of trims you desire and generally have fun putting together the finishing touches. You will also have your head measured if you are having a fitted crown design. Finally, you will be given a guide as to how much your commission will cost and if you would like to proceed, you will be asked for a 50% (non-refundable) deposit.

Your next visit will be when you try your hat on for the final time and take it away with you, after paying any outstanding balance. At this stage we always ensure you are 100% happy with the colour, design and fit of your hat or headpiece.
